Monday 9 January 2023                          Live Lounge appeal and format
LO: to explore the format of an exam question and how to respond

BBC R1 Remit: It has a Live Lounge, Live Music, Professional back ground singers, 15-29 year olds, Entertain young listeners.
HOW DOES THE LIVE LOUNGE APPEAL TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE AND MEEET THE BBC REMIT?
What could you include- who are the audience, what appeals to them and what is the remit
Who are the audience- 15-29 year olds
How is the audience appeal to- playing music that teenagers, young presenters
What is the remit- Live Music
How is the remit met- Entertain- using live music from UK artists
What evidence from the show could use to support your answer

The Live Lounge appeals to the audience through presenters, An example of this is seen by playing younger generation music that teenagers-young adults like, young presenters. This ensures that the live lounge targets join and listen to the Live Lounge. The Live Lounge fits in the BBC remit through young artists, young presenters, talk about things that teenagers would listen to, live music that young people would listen to, give advice that is inspiring and would help young people in life and give interviews to people that would draw people to watch the BBC  and the Live Lounge.
The Live Lounge appeals to the audience through artists, An example of this is seen when they play music that teenagers listen to. Rising artists are popular because they play the music they listen to. They are also popular because they are young and they understand all the popular things that are going on around the world. They attracted the young people because they collaborate with famous people witch people would watch and listen to.

EXAM:
The MUSIC section of Paper 2 has 5 questions
Question 1, 2 & 3 could be on Radio
QUESTION 1:
Business
Dont Know
TV licence
QUESTION 2:
They use Live Lounge to target there audience. They use popular artists like Stormzy because people like him and sings other people music like Beyonce and other people
The Live Lounge entertains, Informs, Educates because they talk about the news and things going on around the world. To educate they talk about things that might be helpful towards the children and young people. To entertain they make jokes and they play music that people might like so they can sing to it and things like that
The BBC are active because they are always doing competitions and talk to the audience. They are passive because they dont always do thing like games and things like that they do other things as well
QUESTION 3:
The BBC provides a range because they talk about different things. For example they talk about things that young people would talk about and they play music that young people would listen to like the artists now. Another example they play music for older people and they talk about older things that might of went on around that time. They also have Live Lounge that can play older music but can also play newer music for the older and younger people
They do this because they have more people watching the Live Lounge and watching the radio. They also have more income and getting more people watching because they are not focusing on one age. They also want to entertain people aswell but they cant do that is there is just one age they are on about

2.
Wheatus, Teenage Dirtbag
Alternative/indie
2000
Teenage Dirtbag" is about a childhood experience
there is a love story and the boy likes the girl but the girls boyfriend dosent like him. The girl broke up with him and got with the boy but it was all a dream
Her name is Noelle
I have a dream about her
She rings my bell
I got gym class in half an hour
Oh, how she rocks
In Keds and tube socks
But she doesn't know who I am
And she doesn't give a damn about me

[Chorus]
'Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me, ooh

[Verse 2]
Her boyfriend's a dick
And he brings a gun to school
And he'd simply kick
My ass if he knew the truth
He lives on my block
And he drives an IROC

But he doesn't know who I am
And he doesn't give a damn about me

[Chorus]
'Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby
Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me, ooh

[Bridge]
Oh, yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missin'
Oh, yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missin'

[Verse 3]
Man, I feel like mold
It's prom night and I am lonely
Lo and behold
She's walkin' over to me
This must be fake
My lip starts to shake
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?
I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby
Come with me Friday, don't say maybe
sk8er boi- never just a book by its cover
teenage dirtbag- never bully people and dont think people are weird
Wheatus: narrative and performance and avril Lavigne: performance plus some narrative
sk8er boi- lip syncing, live performance, perform to cameras,
Teenage Dirtbag- Video tells us a story, story often matches the lyrics

LO: to examine the use of media language in music videos
Mise-en-scene:
Setting, Costume, Props, Lighting, Hair & Make Up, Colour, Performance (positioning, facial expression, body language)
To make her look strong and she can get through the break up
He has a lot of jewellery and he has nice clothes which might mean he is successful and has a good job
Money, Diamonds, Necklaces, Golden Tap, See Through Bath

its set in a city because it has big building around

The clothes represent the skater look. This something that a skater would were
The wrist band are like skater protection but the are not

She is punk because she has black eye liner and she has wrist band on like a punk person

the setting in teenage dirtbag is in a school you know because you can see all the school kids.
the clothes on the band could mean the are pop or rock
one is very scruffy and the other one is nice and not scruffy

Thursday 9 February
LO: to examine the use of media language in music videos
The Roller Skates, The Shop, The Clothing is colourful and they look like fun dancing clothes
The genre is shown by having skate boards and wearing clothes like skaters
They promote Avril Lavigne as the lead singer because she is always at the front and you can always see her singing
Avril Lavigne and her friends are dressed like skaters. This is achieved by using clothes, skateboards and setting. This could suggest to the audience that its punk and punk pop punk.
In Avril Lavigne music video is set in a city. We know this because there is shots showning a city with lots of big buildings and traffic. In my opinion the video is set here because there is a concert and there is a lot of people
The outfits in teenage dirtbag is some are cool outfits and the lonely kids is not nice which mates him look poor and the girl has a nice dress on which makes her look popular.
The music video for Avril Lavigne Sk8er Boi and Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag use setting and costume to achieve similar effect. For example they Avril Lavigne a serten person and Teenage Dirtbag a different person.

Thursday 23 February 2023
LO: to explore how camerawork is used to create meaning in music videos

Teenage Dirtbag- Naturalistic
Sk8er Boi- Expressionistic

shot type: point of view
it is used because he face would look really small because it is through a camera
it is used because she is getting recorded and you can have a clear view

shot type: extreme long shot
it is used because you can see the sign behind him and you can see that there is no one around him
It is used there because he is on his own and we can see he is a loser

shot type: high mid shot
it is used to show she is the main singer
it is used there because she is singing and you can see she is the main singer

shot type: low shot
it is used to show that her boyfriend is more popular than him and he is better
the shot is used here to show
that her boyfriend is bigger and better

shot name: extreme close up
it is used to show she is the main singer and they are only focusing on her
they use it there because they are only focusing on avril Lavigne

dizzy, energetic, crazy, fast,
the camera movement in Sk8er Boi is expressionistic. for example, at one point in the video the were following the camera and they were doing it by hand like a film. The camerawork fis the tone of the song because he is a loser

Thursday 9 March 2023
LO: to explore how sound & editing are used to create meaning in music videos
SOUND:
Non-Diegetic, only the audience can hear the sounds
Diegetic, sounds in the movie can hear and the audience can hear

Diegetic sounds in sk8er boi were the spray cans at the beginning means they are rebellious and dont care
The helicopter at realism to the scene in sk8er boi
Teenage dirtbag has the car hitting the bike and the bike falling over. This is only for dramatic effect
EDITING:
Order of shots/ shot choices
Continuity
Transitions
Shot Duration
Pace and Rhythm
Special Effects

Both of the music videos are linear

1. Sk8er Boi is faster because Avril Lavigne is singing it alot faster
2. Teenage dirtbag has a longer shot length because goes to parts of the story slow
3. Teenage Dirtbag and Sk8er boi both cut to the beat
4. Sk8er Boi is rock and punk and that type of music is fast and Teenage dirtbag is medium pace
5. Slow motion when the girl is walking this shows she is a popular person and she is pretty
when he wakes up and and goes into a dream
Some music videos use mise-n-scene  different but some are the same Teenage Dirtbag and Sk8er Boi are different. Teenage dirt bag has a school theme like the area they are in and they have school clothes and they have school kids. Sk8er boi has a very punk gothic look like the arm bands Avril has on and the area they are in. All the people in SK8er Boi are also gothic and have ear piercings.

Thursday 30 March 2023
LO: to explain the construction of representation in music videos

1. love is represented in sk8er boi is by them all fighting over one boy, straight
1. love is represented in teenage dirt bag as a dream and he thinks about the girl, straight
2. they are dressed up like skaters and they look like they break the rules
2. one looks like a geek and one looks really posh
3. women look powering in sk8er boi and they look the main character
3. women look attractive in teenage dirtbag
4.  avril Lavigne looks skater and powering
4. in teenage dirtbag they just look like themselfs
5. young
5. young
6. in skater boi there is skaters and emos and they are in a city
6. in teenage dirtbag there in a school and they look normal
7.they are both predominately white

Thursday 20 April 2023
LO: to explore and practice exam style questions

4 Mark Question:
Compare how gender is representation are constructed in music videos.

In sk8er boi avril lavinge a dominant female character in sk8er boi. For example she is always at the front and there is always a shot of her in the music video. her costume is also more bright than the others because she has a green top and the other just have black tops. The connotations of being dominant suggests not being sterotypical
In teenage dirtbag the main character is not the strong one and called the loser. For example he is getting bullied and sits on a bench by himself. the connotations of being the main character proves they are not always the strong ones.

10 Mark Questions:
Explain how stereotypes are used in music. Refer to two music videos you have studied to support your answer.

music video producers use stereotypes because they are very easy for an audience to recognise and therefore, identify characters. In Skater Boi, they use the teenage rebel stereotype. we see teenagers doing lots of rebellious things like: graffiti walls, abseiling down walls and setting up an illegal street concert. this shows a lack of respect for rules and fits the rebel stereotype often with teenagers. another way stereotypes in skater boi is used is the skater stereotype. This is shown by the skater clothes they wear like the the shin pads and the baggy trousers they wear. they also have skateboards as well. this shows they are all skaters and rebels
In Teenage Dirtbag the girls boyfriend has a jumper on that shows he is a jock. the loser is badly dressed and not looking like the jock. the stereotype is people that look nicer can get better and nice people than the loser. this shows the lack of respect to the poor people
